Making a 3d model of a background which you can rotate and trace at various angles for use in something like a comic is a genius idea, comics are massively time consuming, and anything that speeds the process is good in my books - there is enough complicated stuff to work on I don't really see it as laziness, you're just bypassing the use of a drawing board and rulers in favour of something which makes that tedious work faster.
